Description
A manual nasal aspirator is a device used to clear a baby’s or infant’s nasal passages of mucus, helping them breathe more easily. Unlike electric aspirators, manual aspirators rely on suction created by a caregiver to remove mucus safely.
How to Use a Manual Nasal Aspirator
- Prepare the Baby
- Keep the baby in an upright or slightly reclined position.
- Use saline drops (2-3 drops per nostril) to loosen thick mucus if needed.
- Wait 30 seconds before aspirating.
- Using a Bulb Syringe
- Squeeze the bulb to expel air.
- Insert the tip gently into the baby’s nostril.
- Release the bulb to create suction and draw out mucus.
- Remove, squeeze out the mucus onto a tissue, and repeat for the other nostril.
- Using a Mouth Suction Aspirator
- Place the tip in the baby’s nostril.
- Gently suck on the mouthpiece
